Rachel Howley is a current Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. Her research explores the role of the conductor in championing the wind band works of Australian women composers, and she is an active advocate for diversity in repertoire selection. Rachel regularly presents sessions for music educators from across Australia and internationally on repertoire diversity. Through her research she has commissioned several new works and facilitated partnerships between emerging composers, conductors, educational institutions and Australian publishing companies. In May 2022, Rachel was named as one of Australia's Most Influential Educators by 'The Educator' magazine.

In addition to regularly conducting secondary school ensembles, Rachel is a conductor at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in the Young Conservatorium programs and has guest conducted the Queensland Conservatorium Wind Orchestra and several of the Queensland Youth Orchestra ensembles including their premier ensemble, the Queensland Youth Symphony. She is a member of the conducting team for the Queensland Wind Orchestra, one of Australia's finest wind bands, and is regularly engaged as a clinician, presenter and consultant throughout Australia.
